With Laura, I finally felt understood
For years – I didn’t recognise how traumatised I was (nor that I was a real victim of domestic abuse) and this massively impacted how professionals and the court perceived me. When my barrister suggested I got some therapy and that I engage Laura Rosefield to assist with my case, things started to change.
I felt as if I was going mad until this point and professionals (including my lawyer and social workers etc) treated me as if I was mad. I then undertook months of intensive EMDR therapy with a therapist and Laura began to work closely with me to support me through the process, explain things to me slowly and in non- legal jargon – sometimes having to repeat herself several times just so I could retain the information.
She would recognise when I was triggered and take time to calm me and reassure me and put things into perspective. Both my therapist and Laura helped me with coping strategies and Laura acted as a filter/communicator between professionals (barristers, the other side’s lawyers etc) and me.
Laura also helped me to understand how my responses were being perceived, which in turn, helped me to regulate myself so that I was able to work hard to moderate how I was feeling before I communicated.
